Starting PrEP

Starting PrEP is simple as a few tests. Any doctor can prescribe you PrEP. You can see your family doctor, a sexual health or family planning doctor. They will run a few tests, including:​

  • HIV

  • Kidney function

  • Other STIs

Then you get a prescription for PrEP to start preventing HIV right away

If you have Medicare

You can buy PrEP from your local pharmacy, and some even offer discounts.  If you have concession, PrEP is even less expensive.

If you don’t have Medicare

You can:

  • Import low-cost PREP from overseas. Your order may take up to a month to arrive, so plan ahead. PrEP will cost around $20 per month.

  • Use a free PrEP coupon. These are available to anyone who cannot afford the cost of buying PrEP online.

Daily PrEP = 1 pill every day
* suitable for every body and all genders.

On Demand PrEP = you take a set amount of pills before and after sex
* only recommended for cisgender men who have sex with men.
