Why buy PrEP online?

With PrEP now listed on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) in Australia access to PrEP locally has never been better. However there are a number of great reasons people continue choose to import PrEP from overseas.

PRICE!

PrEP costs $31.60 per month on the PBS available at any local pharmacy. However, there are discounted prices available, from $20 per month, when you buy it online. Why? Generic PrEP makers overseas can produce and ship PrEP much more cost effectively. If you’re looking to save money on PrEP, buying online is the way to go.

We also list some local pharmacies that offer discounts on the PBS price for everyone with and without Medicare! There are low cost options for everyone starting at $30 per month locally.

NO MEDICARE? NO PROBLEM!

You can only access PrEP on the PBS in Australia if you have a Medicare card.

Those without Medicare now have access to the same prices as Australians, thanks to various charities that discount the price of PrEP to pass on savings to you. You can buy effective and affordable PrEP online from $20 per month. We also have Australian pharmacies listed that can ship PrEP from $30 per month within Australia, even without Medicare.

SUPPORTING COMMUNITY!

Buying PrEP from Green Cross Pharmacy and Ace Pharmacy means that proceeds from the sale of your PrEP order will be set aside to allow us to get PrEP to people who can’t afford it through the PrEP Coupon Assistance Scheme

How do I buy PrEP online?

  1. GET TESTED First thing is first. Get along to your doctor and make a PrEP appointment. At your appointment your doctor will do a test for HIV and STIs, check your hepatitis B vaccination status, and check your kidney function. These are all standard tests to make sure you are suited to taking PrEP. You can start PrEP even if you have an STI when you got for a test, the doctor will treat you for any STIs.

  2. GET YOUR PRESCRIPTION Your doctor will give you a prescription for PrEP. Your script might say Truvada, Truvada as PrEP, or simply Tenofovir emtricitabine 300/200 - which is just the name of the two medicines in PrEP tablets.

  3. BUY ONLINE Head to our Buy PrEP Online page and choose a PrEP supplier. Different PrEP suppliers will sell different kinds of generic PrEP drugs. Some common brands besides Truvada are Tenof-EM, Tenvir-EM, Adco-Emtavir, and Ricovir-EM. So long as the product you order is Tenofovir emtricitabine 300/200 you’ve selected PrEP! Some suppliers might sell Descovy, a different kind of medicine used as PrEP, however if your prescription is for Tenofovir emtricitabine 300/200 - make sure to buy the right product. Select a product that is 90 pills or add three 30-pill bottles to your cart. The Australian personal importation scheme allows for an individual to import a three month supply of medication at any one time. The total quantity imported within any 12-month period must not exceed a 15-month supply. You need to upload your prescription at some stage during the ordering process. Without a prescription you may be able to pay for your order, and it may even be shipped - but because there are rules about importing medications into Australia you risk your PrEP being held at the border until you can produce a script, or worse yet your medication may be confiscated and destroyed. If this happens you won’t be eligible for a refund or replacement.

Paying for PrEP can vary depending on where you order from. Some take direct credit/debit card payments while others will use EFT (direct bank deposit), PayPal, or BitCoin. If you use BitCoin it might take a little extra time the first time you order PrEP to set up a BitCoin Wallet. Coinbase is the most versatile Bitcoin application as it works on PC and Mac, plus Android and iOS apps.

  4. START TAKING PrEP!

Once you have your PrEP from the pharmacy, start to take your PrEP as it was prescribed by your doctor. You can find step by step guides on how to take PrEP here

We recommend you make your next doctor appointment as soon as you open your last bottle of PrEP. That will ensure you have enough time to see your doctor, get your follow up tests and a new prescription for 90 pills of PrEP, and get your PrEP round delivered - without missing a dose!
